Edinburgh Castle

Situated on an extinct volcanic outcrop, Edinburgh Castle dominates the capital’s skyline with stunning views across the city and out to the Firth of Forth.  Edinburgh Castle is the home of the Scottish Crown Jewels, the oldest Royal Regalia in Britain.

Displayed with the Crown Jewels is the Stone of Destiny, returned to Scotland after 700 years in England.  The stone is a symbol of Scotland’s nationhood.

The castle has witnessed most of Scotland’s rich tapestry of history from the Romans to besieging Anglos.

Abbot House

As administrative headquarters to the first and richest Benedictine Abbey in Scotland, Abbot House is truly unique.  It has borne witness to the intrigues of Church Sate, survived fire and tempest, war and pillage and even outlasted much of the Abbey itself.  Beneath its lovely garden lie the long-forgotten graves of pilgrims and craftsmen, and below these lie abandoned mediaeval forges whose furnaces last glowed before Bannockburn.  Within its walls Abbots and Kings have consulted on affairs of state, while great poets like Henryson and Dunbar have declaimed their latest works.  Hardly any aspect of Dunfermline and Scotland’s colourful history has failed to leave its mark upon its fabric.
