The name Pitbauchlie, like many of Fife’s place names is of Celtic origin. The "pett" which translates to "estate farm" occurs more often in the Dunfermline area, that any other area in Scotland. Thus, Pitbauchlie translates to " …estate of the keeper of the bachall or crozier."
